What is a 24 hour comic?

It's a challenge: one cartoonist tries to create a full 24 page comic, normally months of work, in 24 straight hours.

What is 24 hour comics day?

It's an international celebration of comics creation. Cartoonists all over take the challenge of trying to create a 24 page comic story in 24 straight hours. Many gather at special events in comic book shops, schools, and other locations.

Does that mean all these artists will be working on one 24 page comic? No each artists makes their own 24 page comic. So if we have just one person turn up for the event we get one 24 page comic and if 20 people show up we'd have 20 24 page comcics.

But my friend and I want to work on one together?

According to the "offical" page if two artists want to work together then they must aim to produce a 48 page comic as its two peoples work. Saying that its about having fun wither you finish one page or 24 or even 100.

Where in Ireland are 24 hours comics day events taking place?

Well so far I only know of the one in Dublin, if you or someone you know is hosting another one somewhere please let us know. The Dublin event will take place in the Central Hotel .

When does it start?

Noon on saturday october 18th and finishes 24 hours later at noon on sunday october 19th

Does it cost anything to take part?

No there is no fee to take part however each artist is responsible for bringing their own drawing materials for creating their comic.

What do i need to make a 24 hour comic?

Whatever you want really. There's no rules as to what your comic has to be produced with, as long as you can carry it with you to the venue. Your pages can be any size, black and white or colour. Hand drawn or computer drawn.

So anything I can bring with me I can draw with?

Pretty much, but please remember we have only have so much space and that there will be a number of artists drawing in that space so try and avoid anything that will smell or can't be used in an inclosed area like spray paint. Also slow drying materials, like oil paints, might not be the best choice for a 24 hour comic.

I can't really draw very well, should I even bother taking part?

Of course you should, 24 hour comcis day is not about making pretty pictures, its about enjoying comics and trying to push yourself. If you want to make your comic with stick figures or finger paints go right ahead, just enjoy the chanellage.

I like superman comics this sounds like some indie comics thing

24 hour comics day is for all comics, wither you draw superhero stlye comics, indie style or Manga.

Do I need to register to take part?

No you can just show up on the day - thou we encourage people to contact us via comicspace or to post on the 24 hour comics day thread at Boards.ie so we can answer any questions you might have before the event.

Is their an age limit to take part?

No there is no age limit however we would ask that anyone under 18 check with their parent/guardian that they can stay overnight BEFORE arriving for the event, we don't want an angry parent arriving at 2am to yell at the organisers. The event is being held on the second floor of the hotel and the main entrance to the hotel has 24 hour secruity. Please make your parent/guardian aware that the event is being held in a hotel which has a bar serving alcohol on the premises.

What if I can't stay for the whole 24 hours?

Thats ok, people are welcome to come and go from the event. If you can't make it till after the noon start or have to leave early thats fine. While we'd like as many people as possible to attempt the full 24 hours, its understandable that giving up a full 24+ hours can be though for some.

Can I attend the event as a spectator?

Sure feel free to wander in and say HI. There is a bar serving food in the hotel and a number of nice cafe/resturants in the area if you want to eat before/after visting the event and also several comic stores very close by if one feels like shopping: Sub City is across from the hotel and Forbidden planet is located near the river 10mins away.

Will there be food/drinks?

There will be food/drinks available to purchase via the hotel. As we have to pay for the venue and advertising and we're not charaging anything to take part, we cannot afford to provide food/drinks as well I'm afraid. If any individual/group/organisation would like to sponsor a round of tea/coffee or plate of chips for the artists taking part please contact the organisers.

Can I bring food with me?

Officially no, the hotel has stated they do not want outside food being brought in, however, we will not be checking peoples bags so as long as you don't advertise it, you can bring some small snacks/drinks. Again avoid anything that smells - 24 hours in a room that smelt like fish or something would not be fun. There is a dunnes store across the street from the hotel and a 24 hour centra around the corner.

Is there any way for me to get in thouch with other people planning to take part?

Have a look at the comics fourm over at Boards.ie There is a thread on there for 24 hour comics day.

I don't live in Dublin and have no way of getting to the event.
